It was Monday at around 6:00 in the morning, as we prepare ourselves to start the day. We attend the flag ceremony and we are introduced by their very enthusiastic principal, Mrs. Gelilang. We are 4 in the group and we are assign in the kindergarten class, it was quite fun meeting new faces and knowing unique individuals with different characteristics - that without us knowing can make a difference in our lives.
As we observe the kindergarten class, their is this one student that had caught our attention, we don't know why but maybe their something in this boy that awakened our curiosity. He was just quietly sitting there in the back while his classmates is busy talking to one another. So recess time came, some of his classmates is going to the canteen to buy foods while others have their own, while he aside doesn't have any, so we gave him food, we can see in his eyes that he is very happy, so hours, minutes and seconds pass by, their class comes to an end, we decided that we want to know the child more so we interview her teacher first as to know what is the child's performance inside the classroom, we were shock of what the teacher told us.
His name is Jaymark, his 5 years old, his in the morning class never been absent, his also in the afternoon class still never been absent, shocking right? well his reason why his still attending the afternoon class even though his in the morning class is quite reasonable, he prefers to be in school, than in their house just sitting there facing the wall with an empty stomach. It was a punch in our faces when we heard his reason, all along we keep on complaining things actually stupid things because we can't sacrifice a little but to this kid he never complain as we interview him about his life, imagine in an early age he faces many challenges, he live in a small hut, with his mother, blind grandmother and 3 siblings. His father is in prison (I don't exactly know the reason), well his mother is working but with a little compensation that sometimes they can't afford to eat three times a day.
We had a little chit chat with him about his goals and dreams in life, he have many dreams, dreams that keep him on staying on tracks, dreams that keep him believing, dreams that we hope he can achieve it someday and dreams that we hope can make his life change. We gave them canned foods, rice, noddles etc. so as to show our gratitude to them as well as our own little help to them. We did a little with so much work must be done. A sad reality that we can't help but just live to it.
We have realized a lot on this experiences, that sometimes we complain over stupid things, when we feel that it is hard to do this or to achieve it we easily give up without even trying, we are afraid with the word sacrifice because it might affect us negatively, we are afraid of trying new things because we might not know what will be its outcome. We don't know yet what is our purpose in this world but maybe I know what is the purpose of this young boy to us, to make us realize that every life is full of sacrifices, that life is full of boundless possibilities, that we don't know what will happen the next day, that everyday, we have to make one small sacrifice to make our life, our love ones or someone else life better. Jaymark sacrifices is never a coincidence but the right term is destined to be, and those sacrifices will be paid off someday. We believe in him much more as he believe in himself.
